Private Cantonese Tutor in Singapore and Online
(Only available for Online lessons) I am a native Cantonese and Mandarin speaker from Malaysia who recently relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education. Currently, I am only able to conduct online lessons unless you are residing within Chichester, UK and surroundings.
My interest in languages stems from my time in Germany, where I picked up German and was deeply impressed by my language teacher. Now, I am excited to share my native languages with those interested in learning and practicing, alongside my career as a dance educator and dance science practitioner.
Drawing from my teaching background, I prioritize finding solutions with students rather than solely focusing on delivering required objectives. Effective communication is key to successful tuition.
During our lessons, I will tailor a personalized syllabus and provide custom worksheets. I aim to minimize the use of languages other than the one we are learning. For instance, English will be used sparingly. This approach accelerates language acquisition by immersing students fully in the learning language, encouraging them to engage and process information more effectively.

Is it difficult to learn Cantonese in Singapore?
Picking up Cantonese in Singapore can be challenging due to the limited presence of a Cantonese-speaking community. In our daily encounters, Cantonese is rarely spoken, with English, Mandarin and sometimes Hokkien being the predominant languages used. Unless you have Cantonese-speaking friends or colleagues who are willing to converse with you in Cantonese, most conversations tend to be conducted in English or Mandarin mixed with Hokkien.
How much time does it take to learn Cantonese in Singapore?
Having a background in Mandarin can facilitate the process of learning Cantonese, as many aspects of Cantonese, including grammar rules, overlap with Mandarin. This shared foundation can make it easier for Mandarin speakers to grasp Cantonese. However, knowledge of mandarin to start learning Cantonese is not necessary.
