I come from Hong Kong and my mother tongue is Cantonese, but, I am also good at Mandarin too! So if students want to learn both of these languages, I’ll be a good choice. I have a younger brother who is in Primary school so I think I am patient with children. I achieved an overall 7.5 in IELTS so I can also teach students Chinese in English.
I’m described as a gentle, polite, calm person by people around me. I think my personality makes me a role model for younger students.
I had a little tutoring experience in Hong Kong, I taught primary students their English/Chinese/Mathematics for a period of time.
There are many Cantonese-speaking people in Hobart, maybe you will hear it in a supermarket, on a bus, or while you are having your afternoon tea, so you have enough opportunity to listen to daily Cantonese dialogue. Of course, you will need at least some basic knowledge of the frequently used phrases/vocabularies to understand what they said.
Cantonese is deemed harder than mandarin for its 6(usually used)-9(uncommon) tones, and not all Cantonese words can be written. However, since Cantonese is often spoken instead of written, students can concentrate on its pronunciation (tho I’m happy to teach you how to write); and due to the diverse intonation, it will be easier to differentiate similar sounding words.
