Hello! My name is Khine, and I am a native Burmese speaker currently based in Portugal. I have a diverse international background, having lived and worked in Japan for several years before moving to Europe for my Master's degree. My multicultural experience allows me to understand the challenges of learning a new language from scratch.
Why learn with me?
My teaching approach is student-centered and highly practical. Whether you are a complete beginner wanting to learn basic greetings or an intermediate learner looking to polish your conversational skills, I tailor my lessons to meet your specific goals. Having mastered Japanese and English myself, I can provide clear explanations and relatable mnemonic devices to help you remember Burmese tones and script more easily.
What we can focus on:
Everyday Conversations: How to order food, shop, and travel in Myanmar like a local.
Business Burmese: Formal language and professional etiquette for working in Myanmar.
Grammar & Script: A structured approach to understanding the beautiful Burmese alphabet and sentence structures.
Cultural Insights: Learning the language through the lens of Myanmar's rich traditions, food, and history.
I have extensive experience working with young children in Japan, ranging from infants to 5-year-olds, where I was responsible for childcare and teaching basic English. This experience has honed my patience and ability to explain complex concepts in simple, easy-to-understand ways—skills that I now apply to help my adult students master the Burmese language. I am a patient, encouraging, and flexible tutor.
If you are looking for a tutor who understands the expat lifestyle and the nuances of cross-cultural communication, I would be honored to help you on your Burmese language journey. Let’s start speaking Burmese with confidence together, I can be your speaking partner!
"While Burmese is often categorized as a challenging language (Category 4) due to its unique script and tonal nature, it is incredibly rewarding. The grammar is actually quite logical and straightforward once you understand the basic sentence structure. With my guidance and practical approach—using relatable examples from everyday life—I make the learning process much smoother and more engaging for my students."
"Learning a language is a journey that depends on your individual goals and consistency. For casual learners in Lisbon who want to master basic survival phrases for travel, it typically takes about 3 to 6 months of regular lessons. However, to achieve conversational fluency, I recommend committing to at least 1-2 sessions per week. Since I provide flexible online or in-person sessions, we can pace the lessons according to your schedule to ensure steady progress."
