University student looking for new learners for Japanese

Private Japanese Tutor in Singapore and Online

Lessons ONLINE only

Hi! My name is Ming, and I am currently in university. I took Japanese as a subject since Secondary 1 as well as H2 Japanese in JC. Since I am considering Japan-related careers in the future, I would like to teach beginner/intermediate-level Japanese to keep in touch with my language skills. In terms of qualifications, I received the LEP (Language Elective Programme) Pre-U scholarship from the Ministry of Education and obtained a JLPT N2 pass last year. I received an A grade for my H2 Japanese Preliminary exams and a B grade in my A Level examinations. I have participated in two immersion trips to Japan as well as several local immersions with the Japanese schools in Singapore. I have also taken part in a student-initiated VIA project to teach beginner-level Japanese to disadvantaged local children by partnering with the CDAC. I am willing to offer reasonable prices, flexible scheduling and online lessons in light of the current pandemic. If you have no/little prior experience learning Japanese and would like someone to guide you through the basics (writing systems, simple conversations, common vocabulary etc.), I may just be the right tutor for you :) Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

How easy is it to learn Chinese / Mandarin in Singapore?

This is a subjective issue. Some may be fast learners, while some may take a while to grasp the language rules. It also depends on your native language, since the Japanese language entails a lot of borrowed words and a rather unique writing system. However, what truly matters is practice! Japanese may be a generally complex language, but regular practice prevents your skills from rusting and speeds up the process considerably :)

How much time does it take to learn Chinese / Mandarin in Singapore?

For a reference, I had 3h weekly lessons for four years (Secondary 1-4) before switching to 2x 2h lessons per week for two years (JC1 and 2), and I would consider myself at high-intermediate/low-advanced fluency in Japanese currently. All of this was done while juggling 4-9 other subjects (including two other languages!). As such, I don't really have an estimate as to how much time it would take for a dedicated learner to reach a certain level of fluency, but like I said, practice and commitment to memory makes the process faster :)
