I have an advanced level of proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese and French and have used these languages in my jobs as translator and tour guide.
Portuguese is a pretty easy language to learn. As a matter of fact, the Foreign Service Institute under the Unites States Department of State puts it in Group 1 among foreign (non-English) languages, alongside Spanish and French, meaning it is among the easiest ones. It is very close to Spanish but definitely a different language especially when we consider spoken Brazilian Portuguese.
