I’m a second year university student who’s mother tongue is Xhosa. Throughout my high school career I took isiXhosa as a subject earning excellent results which thus resulted in receiving certificates for the subject.
The easiest way to learn isiXhosa is to be surrounded by Xhosa speaking individuals, in that way you will not only be able to understand the language but speak it too.
Considering the fact that with most languages there exists a colloquial and formal manner of speaking, my goal would be to teach both manners which would suit either environments.
IsiXhosa is not an easy subject to learn as there are many clicks in the language which other languages do not have.
Considering the fact that isiXhosa is not a language that is spoken by the majority in Johannesburg, getting accustomed to speaking the language may prove to be difficult as most people speak isiZulu.
