Hello, my name is Leanne and I'm a WSU postgraduate student majoring in TESOL. I’ve been offering 1-1 private tutoring since 2019.
I'm a Vietnamese Australian from Sydney, Australia and I can speak fluent English, Vietnamese and A2 level Korean. As a language enthusiast, I'm passionate about teaching and learning different foreign languages/cultures as it promotes cultural diversity. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge about language/culture.
Students' goals are important to me as a tutor, therefore lessons will be tailored to each student's learning needs. My teaching methodologies are a mixture of audio-lingual, communicative language teaching (CLT) and task-based learning (TBL) which focus on mainly speaking and interactive activities. I truly believe that it's important to make learning fun and interactive instead of boring :)
It depends on each learner's motivation level and their willingness to learn. Some people might pick up Vietnamese quicker than others and vice versa. Realistically speaking, I would say it's a bit difficult to learn Vietnamese as it's a tonal language. However, It's not impossible if you're willing to put in the effort to learn :)
I cannot put a specific time-frame on how long it takes to become fluent in Vietnamese as language is not something you can master overnight, it takes long-term dedication, motivation and consistency on an on-going basis.
Maintaining on-going weekly lessons and daily self study (I highly encourage self study outside of the tutoring lessons, preferably 1hr everyday), which gives you a higher chance of language proficiency in comparison to someone who is a quick learner but puts zero effort into self-study. I suggest this as 1.5-3hrs of tutoring per week alone is not enough to help you become proficient in a language in a short amount of time.
