I am a Portuguese native speaker who speaks fluent English and intermediate Spanish. I used to teach Grammar back in Brazil as a volunteer, and now I have been teaching Portuguese to English speakers for over 3 months and getting great results. I try to put together fun and dynamic classes, taking into consideration what types of exercises seem to work best for every student. I am very didactic and patient, but I can also work at a faster pace depending on the needs of each student. The idea is to fit each student's needs.
There are a lot of Brazillians in Sydney, as well as Brazillian bars, parties and events where you can get in contact to the language, so you can always practice.
Every new language you learn will be challanging on some level. Portuguese does have a lot of similar words to English (although it's not most of them), and the fact that the alphabet is the same as the one used in English certainly makes it easier than some other languages to learn. I would say it's as easy as other latin languages, such as Spanish, French or Italian.
