I am an experienced business coach and trainer, German language teacher and translator (both written and live). I work as a German language teacher in an MoE certified private language school, teaching primary school children, secondary school pupils, and adult learners. I offer German one on one and small group teaching. Additionally to German tuition on various levels, I offer customized German training and coaching for specific business requirements.
Best are one to one tuition or very small groups of 2 to 3 students, alternatively visiting a larger class and having a language/conversation partner at least from level A2 onwards is advisable. It is also highly recommended, again at least form A2 level onwards, to listen to German radio, TV or podcasts. There are a couple of programs made specifically for the respective learning levels, e.g. from Deutsche Welle (DW). Typically from starting level B1 onwards you can try to watch normal German TV-programs, best if they have proper German subtitles like "Weltspiegel".
This depends on your goal. Typical milestones are A1, required for a multiyear family visa for Germany, B1, the final level of basic German, and C1, second highest level required to study in German in Germany. The speed depends on your weekly time spend, as a rule of thumb one hour of class or private tuition should be supported by 90 minutes to two hours of self study and, homework. With one lesson of 90 minutes per week A1 level would typically take between seven and nine months, faster speeds are possible if you really got the time!
