Hi, my name is Sarah Jayne. I was born in Australia, but my heritage is Maltese. I love cooking, eating and trying different cuisines, swimming in the ocean, exploring new cities through travel, hiking in nature and meeting people from different cultures.
I am a filmmaker, writer and storyteller, and my native tongue is English. I can also speak a bit of Maltese, which was self-thought through listening to my parents at a young age.
Currently, I am completing a TEFL course online and I have worked face to face as an ESL teacher during the summer period in Malta in 2021 for a few weeks. The subjects I would be comfortable talking about with my students are film, books and traditional stories, travel, different cultures, philosophy and the delights of life.
My approach to teaching English is conversational - every day language, engaging in discussion, so you can practise talking English naturally and become confident speaking the world's leading language.
I think that in any country you will find excellent teachers who will make it easier for you to learn. You may feel a little self-conscious if your English is not strong. However, Zagreb is full of expats, many of who are English speakers, so you won't have a problem finding people to converse with you in English to build your confidence.
I don't think it will take much time. Practise and speaking regularly is key and in Zagreb, where English is common, you will have plenty of opportunity to practise.
