I began teaching after completing a Graduate Diploma of Education at ACU, in 2001, and I have subsequently taught high school English both in Australia and in Sweden, and I have tutored in the UK, and worked in the USA with adult education positions. I am acquainted with the differences and complexities of the English language and the cultural ways that different countries use English, both from a native-speaking perspective and also from students whose Mother tongue is not English. I am currently tutoring English on a regular basis here in Perth, Western Australia. I like to build students up to be able to use applied English skills, with exercises such as Crossword puzzles, reading comprehension, and using dialogue to explore local colloquial phrases and expressions. There are many areas of learning English that present challenges to non-native-speakers, but I believe in starting with the familiar uses that you already have, your personal interests, and find ways of improving your skills in areas that are your primary needs. So whether you like reading novels, the news, or the ingredients list on items in the supermarket, or if you want to be able to hold your own in conversations at your workplace, or whatever it is that you want to improve, I am very flexible in adapting to your needs. Personally, I am friendly and have a good sense of humour, but I take your learning very seriously.
I am an expert in grammar, spelling, pronunciation.
English is a challenging and difficult language. Students of English need to be prepared to be committed to studying it, and be ready to make mistakes in order to learn.
It is a lifelong journey to learn English. Basic English skills can take six months, but mastering English takes years of application and dedication.
