I’ve been told I have a calm and friendly presence in the classroom. I enjoy creating engaging student-centre materials and tasks, and I try to make my lessons fun for learners. I’m a strong communicator and people person, who absolutely loves building rapport with my students. My pronunciation is intelligible and a good model for English learners. I follow the student-centred teaching philosophy of the British Council-Cambridge University with its focus on the learner, and teachers acting as facilitators who “show” rather than “tell” learners how to use language. Teaching should be fun, enjoyable and open pathways for learners to discover language for themselves (student-centred). Teachers should be facilitators for all aspects of language (speaking, listening, reading and writing). Learners need competent teachers to guide them in the accurate use of language, as well as creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere for learners to build confidence and fluency in language. The CELTA method of lesson planning starts with the main aim of the lesson. I would then decide what lesson framework to follow. Once the most suitable approach for a skills (receptive or productive) lesson or a systems (grammar, lexis, functions) lesson has been chosen, then decide what is the aim of each stage for that particular approach.
