Hello! My name is Lucia and I’m from Woodstock, New York. I’m a musician, playwright, and actress, and I’m currently pursuing a master's degree in cinema in Paris. After spending the past year teaching English in an elementary/middle school in Paris, I am excited to focus my teaching expertise towards a more individualized level. I have a bachelor’s degree in Theater and French Literature and, as an ex-pat myself, I’m passionate about learning languages as a means of connection and creativity. I understand what it’s like to learn a language later in life, and although it can be challenging, it’s an incredibly valuable experience that leads to the strengthening of community and culture. I strive to share the gift of language learning through a prioritization of my students’ interests and artistic sensibilities. As an artist, I thrive in language learning through my appreciation of music, film, and art. By basing my lessons on my creative values and my students’ artistic interests, I aim to make learning English exciting, inspiring, and easy.
Like with any language, learning English is a challenge, especially in a city where it is not the native language. However, having lived in Paris as an American, I have discovered that opportunities for practicing English are everywhere! My goal as a tutor is to guide my students towards confidence, as well as towards situations in which they will be able to use English on an everyday basis and tap into this confidence. These situations might be found in art, music, film, etc. With an understanding of my students interests, as well as of the linguistic culture of Paris, I am confident that my teaching style will allow my students to progress with ease.
Although Paris is not an anglophone city, it offers many opportunities for English-speaking. By connecting my students to these opportunities, I hope to inspire them to practice and use English outside of our lessons. While the linguistic basics will take my students around one month to feel comfortable with, nuanced English language based on personal interests should develop within the first two to three months, as I will guide my students in learning the language within the realm of their own values, creativity, and passions.
