Hello! I'm a friendly and motivated tutor with over 4 years of cross-cultural experience in teaching French and English as a second language to children and adult learners. I was born and raised in Canada and am fluent in Cantonese, English, French and functional Mandarin. My multilingual background is an asset in teaching people of diverse backgrounds in Hong Kong.
I started learning French at the native level in an immersion program in elementary school. I graduated high school from the IB French Immersion program and got my Bachelor of Arts degree double majoring in French and International Relations with first class honours at the University of British Columbia. I worked as a professor's assistant in the French department, instructing students on writing, reading, grammar, listening, and speaking exercises. I also have a TESOL certificate to teach English as a second language. Since I was heavily trained in grammar and linguistics, I am excellent at teaching students both English and French grammar, writing, and reading comprehension.
I have experience tutoring one-one-one with students online and in person. I am able to provide homework support for students or teach a curriculum from other textbooks.
I have a talent for breaking down complex language concepts and fostering a positive learning environment. I am well-organized and diligent about developing creative lesson plans to target diverse learning styles and needs. I am 100% dedicated to clear communication with students and parents to achieve learning goals.
I believe that learning another language is learning another way of thinking and I am passionate to help you discover the joy of mastering another language!
Due to covid safety precautions, I'm only available to tutor online at the moment unless otherwise requested.**
**Also the rates in the first two weeks are set by Tutoroo - consider it as a trial period since all the tuition in the 1st two weeks goes directly to the website. After the first two weeks, the tuition will be determined by the tutor according to the needs of the student and situation and will be communicated transparently.
I think you learn best when you're having fun! According to language learning theories, there are several ways humans acquire language. I believe that commitment on the part of the student and teacher and sound teaching methods and practice, learning English to a near native proficiency level is totally possible!!
I think that depends on where you are at and how much time you put into learning and practicing!
