My name is Amy and I am a 23-year-old Australian currently living in Munich. 🥨
I first arrived in Munich in 2019, where I carried out my Honours year at LMU. During this year I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to tutor other LMU students needing additional help with their English skills (both conversational and academic). During this role, I noticed there was a significant need for more opportunities to practice conversational English - in other words, people had the knowledge but did not have an English-speaking friend/group to practice with! I also was able to draw out common mistakes by non-English speaking students. This was important, as it allowed me to work on my approach to tutoring, and how to best formulate rules and concepts.
In Australia, I worked as a tutor for many years in a variety of subjects including English, Science, and Math. I have always achieved high grades in English subjects and written assessment, and am confident that I can help you with any academic writing needs.
My reason for tutoring: I also like to speak English, and it is a great way to get to know new people while helping them at the same time! I know how liberating it is to see yourself improve at something (especially a language) and want to help you get there 😊
Yes and no. As with anything, if you’re able to push and stay motivated you will achieve whatever you have set out to do eventually. Fortunately Munich isn’t quite German country side, meaning plenty of people are using English to communicate here! In saying this, it can be hard to find people willing to speak english on a day to day basis. Thats where tutoring comes in!
How long is a piece of string? Again, it depends on your motivation (even more so than your starting level). Munich is a very international city, and as many people come from all over the world, English is a central (and very necessary) point of communication. If you surround yourself with the right people and good resources, you can learn English in no time at all. It also helps that we do not use genderized words ;)
