I've taught at the European School of Bruxelles as a French teacher to English kids and an English teacher to French kids for 2 years in Belgium. The classes I covered were maternelle to year 6, and I loved my job but had to leave because I had my baby and due to corona.
Years before moving to Belgium from the Uk, I used to teach English and tutor foreign children of all ages by helping them with their homework during the summer holidays. My students ranged from different ages and backgrounds.
Like any language, English is difficult to learn but with constant support and effort, you can learn the basics of the language in 6- 12 months, and definitely build up from there.
The best way to learn a language is to take weekly classes like I did for French and use your vocabulary in your daily life. Speaking is key, no matter the grammar, no matter the accent. Being born and bought up in the Uk and teaching English for +4 years, it is not a difficult language to pick up.
With weekly classes and constant commitment, It can take anywhere around 6-12 months to learn the basics of English and build from there.
