Ciao! I am Alfio Scandura, an Italian teacher who moved to Australia in 2018 where I've been teaching Italian in a private language school in North Sydney, at the Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney, and as a freelance around Australia. I was born and grew up in Sicily, then I moved to Rome where I studied Psychology and started to teach Italian to people who recently had moved to Rome. I love helping others to communicate better and I feel happy when I see the smile and the enthusiasm of my students learning Italian! I recently got a TESOL certificate (learning about methodologies on how to teach a new language) which is actually helping me to bring my Italian lessons to the next level. Italian is music and poetry and the reason is partly hidden into a special little secret and if you focus on this secret you'll be able to learn and speak it soon... Do you want to discover it?!

Is Italian easy to learn?

If you truly wanna learn it, you can definitely learn it! You only need 1 lesson per week and 5 minutes (average) per day to practice it, doing the tailored homework that I select or create for you!

Is it difficult to learn Italian in Sydney?

It is not the easiest language in the world, but it is the most poetical and musical one, which makes it fun and rewarding! I plan every single lesson to work with you on listening, reading, grammar, writing and conversation skills. Provided homework is also essential and is included in the hourly rate.

Alfio is an excellent teacher. Not only is he patient and accommodating to my busy schedule his lessons are fun and interactive. His passion for teaching is infectious. He takes the time to explain things in detail, his experience shines through with his lesson plans. He makes it easy for me not to be discouraged by the bigger picture and helps me keep building each week on the week before and even when I can't see it he had a way of keeping me moving in the right direction.

Alfio’s structure to teaching is ideal , his process and tuition has a great flow and logic to understanding Italian. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn Italian . He also has a great sense of humour which makes learning fun.

Alfio has been a great tutor. Started 7 weeks ago and I have found him very methodical in covering the basics of the Italian language. This should set up a great base for further progression. Easy to interact with online and punctual. I highly recommend.

Alfio is a great teacher! He prepares and tailors each lesson according to my needs and makes it always clear, interesting, and fun. I've always struggled to learn the language, but after few months with him now I feel like I can travel to Italy and have small conversations in Italian! 100% recommended!!!
