As a 2017 graduate of American University’s School of International Service, I have spent the past nearly ten years focusing on the history, language, and politics of Eastern Europe and Russia.
Studies at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), as well as active involvement in Russia-related organizations in Washington, D.C., have made me aware of the importance of open conversation between the U.S. and Russia, the two nations I most admire and hold dear to my heart.
My passion for languages and cross-cultural communication led to my enrollment in the International TEFL Academy. Soon after receiving my TEFL certificate, I relocated to Moscow, Russia, to work as an English teacher with BKC-IH, and later as an ESL teacher in a private school, where I am currently in my third year teaching young learners (Pre-K through the 7th grade).
I created curriculums for my classes from the bottom-up, utilizing textbooks, presentations, TPR, realia, worksheets, and games. I believe in student-centered learning, including hands-on activities and technology integration in my lessons.
I also have experience working as a governor for children in families. I would accompany them in a variety of daily activities, sometimes combined with private tutoring sessions, both actively and passively engaging them in the English language.
I have an excellent rapport with my students, and pride myself on creating fun and dynamic activities to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Most importantly, I believe in creating a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere for language-learning. I like to think that my vibrant energy is especially contagious for children!
Moscow is the best city to learn English in Russia. As the capital and largest city of the country, its naturally “international” nature makes English a useful language and one that appears often!
I would say that no language is “easy” to learn, per se, but English may be more simple than others. It’s not only everywhere (TV, films, music, online), helping you with passive exposure, but has a less convoluted grammar system than many other languages, helping many speak it well at a basic level. Mastering it requires much more work, but with the right amount of effort, you can do it!
